Amana Colonies
The Amana Colonies are very similar to the Amish. Very pretty country.
Hi Guys - glad you were able to make RAGBRAI - it's such a great experience. Just wanted to let you know that the Amana Colonies are not similar to the Amish - actually no connection at all. This is a very common misconception - both German, religious groups, similar names. However the Colonies are fully modern, and always have been. As a National Historic Landmark, the Colonies preserve their architectural heritage as it was built in 1855. The Amana Church still exists today, and is the only church of its kind in the world. Take care - hope you will participate in RAGBRAI next year!
